Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism
The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism (GSST) is a national programme and a certification scheme that carries out the following tasks under the SLOVENIA GREEN umbrella brand:
– brings together all efforts directed towards the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia,
– offers tools for destinations and service providers that enable them to evaluate and improve their sustainability endeavours,
– promotes these green endeavours through the SLOVENIA GREEN brand.
The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism is a comprehensive system to promote the development of sustainable tourism in Slovenia, intended for both destinations and tourist service providers. The scheme, the objective of which is to improve competitiveness, quality and innovativeness of Slovenian tourism, is based on the European Tourism Indicator System ETIS and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council GSTC, which enables a comparison to other green destinations around the world
In 2015, the destination Laško signed the Green Policy of Slovenian Tourism to join the green scheme. After a long-term evaluation process, Laško was awarded the Slovenia Green Destination bronze label. A large number of destinations, service providers, parks and agencies that were awarded the Slovenia Green title have joined the scheme up to this day.
A green (environmentally and socially responsible) destination is not only a project, a task or a responsibility of a tourist organisation. It is something that has to be worked on by everyone – all participants in the destination, including the public, non-governmental and private sector – in tourism, as well as in other fields. Nonetheless, all the people living in the destination are of great importance in this process. It is crucial for a destination to offer a pleasant and friendly atmosphere for everyone living and working there. And as a result, the destination is also like that for the visitors.
