The homestead of the greatest Slovenian epic poet Anton Aškerc has been preserved in its original form and converted into a museum with ethnological and Slavistic exhibitions. Visitors can see the literary collection, the black kitchen, the living quarters, the chamber, the bedroom… In the more than 500-year-old granary, the Aškerc family has set up a small tasting and sales area where visitors can sample various house cheeses and the jelly from Aškerc’s Damascene Rose, which delights the taste buds and also conjures up stories from the Thousand and One Nights, Aladdin’s Lamp, Aškerc’s Cup of Immortality or his other works, as well as many other mysterious tales from the Middle East.
The experience is certified by the Okusiti Laško (Taste Laško) quality label.
The Nature and Culture Hand in Hand programme includes:
- a welcome drink – a shot of brandy for adults and 1dl of elderflower juice for under those under
18 years or those who do not wish to drink alcohol, water is also available (agreed at reservation) - a story about the work and life of Anton Aškerc, with a visit to the museum
- a description of the work on the farm, a tasting of the home-made cheeses (including salami and bread, wine and juice)
- management, organisation and VAT.
In addition to the activities listed above, the Cup of Immortality programme includes:
- a tour of rural architecture: frjača (drying pit), ahker (canopy), hay rack, granary, barn
- a presentation of the Aškerc Damascene Rose and a tasting of the unique jelly made from its flowers.
