Take part in the feast of St. Martin and its celebratory activities and visit the traditional St. Martin’s fair.
The wine-drinking culture and the celebration of Martinovanje have a long-standing tradition in Laško. Its “roots” go back to the year 1227, when the town of Laško was granted the right to hold the Martinovanje fair. This celebration is marked not only as the municipal holiday in our destination but also in honor of the parish patron, St. Martin.
During the Martinovanje festival in Laško, numerous events take place, combining wine culture, tradition, and ethnological displays unique to this celebration. The festivities begin on Friday at the Laško Library, where special guests and a literary and culinary evening celebrate the rich heritage of wine and gastronomy. Saturday evening brings a unique blessing of the wine at the Laško Cultural Center, intertwined with the customs of this time of year. Sunday marks the highlight of the event with a traditional fair at Aškerčev Square and a festive mass at the Church of St. Martin, where the blessing of the wine is accompanied by performances from the local brass band and folk group, adding significant ethnological value to the celebration.
Martinovanje in Laško is not just a holiday, but an experience. Local restaurateurs prepare special culinary delights to honor the wine and tradition, while the Laška House offers various workshops and wine tastings, allowing visitors to discover the rich wine culture of the region.
Together, this creates an unforgettable festive atmosphere that attracts visitors from near and far.
